About Me

CALL ME ORB WEAVER

My name is Charyl Coe.  I have studied the Tarot off and on since 1978.  I earned an M.A. in English Literature in 1997 focusing on culture and symbolism.  My preferred method for understanding symbols comes out of the theories of the eminent psychologist Carl Jung (1875-1961).  The language he developed to understand the symbols one experiences in dreams and myth can be applied to people the world over and as such can act as a bridge between cultures.

I enjoy sculpting.  I like to work with paper and glue, but I use whatever is around to form my armatures.  The basic process is paper mache, but I like to call my work, "recycle art."

I also have become interested in beading.  I am currently working on a spread cloth to use for my tarot reading.

This combination of interests draws me towards the image of the Orb Weaver

Orb Weavers are spiders who spin circular webs for feeding and for mating.  Some Orb Weavers replace their webs every evening by touch alone.  The idea of building a web by touch alone appeals to the sculptor in me.  The circular web, spider in the middle, forms a mandala which symbolizes the Self as described by Jung.  At the same time, the idea of the spider being aware of what surrounds it by way of vibrations felt through the web is a wonderful description of the concept of synchronicity which is how the Tarot works.

I love to keeping busy, and enjoy helping others.
